    Roots & Shoots

Roots and Shoots Farm was founded in 2010 by Robin and Jess on rented land in Manotick Station, later purchasing Nesbit Farm in La Peche, Quebec, in 2015. Now a family of four with children Fiona (2017) and Florian (2021), the farm thrives with a dedicated team. From the legendary Danny Beswick, who helped establish the farm until 2018, to current Farm Manager Tim Robinson (since 2016), and long-term contributor Kielan Way (since 2012), the crew is the backbone of our success. Recent invaluable additions include Kat, Matt, Theo, and Andrea, alongside countless past team members passionate about sustainable, delicious food. Supported by CSA coordinators and volunteers who assist with everything from tree planting to onion harvesting, we’ve been certified organic since 2010, committed to nutrient-dense, environmentally safe produce. We cherish connecting with our community, inviting you to see Roots and Shoots as your own farm!

This bio is succinct yet captures the farm’s history, team spirit, organic mission, and community focus, making it ideal for your Local Farm page on the Wakefield General Store website. Pleine Lune

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your Co-owned by Farmers Jon Smiley & Randi Townsend, Ferme Pleine Lune is located in Low, Quebec-20 minutes North of Wakefield, QC and 40 minutes from Ottawa, Ontario. We are a certified organic, mixed vegetable and herb farm selling through CSA and farmers' markets. Our main focus is our community supported agriculture program, which runs from June to October and from November to February.

The property is 180 acres, of which we cultivate 9 of them! The majority of the land is forest or fallow, and of our 9 cultivated acres, we always keep half of them in cover crops and green manures.

    Bayview Farms

Bayview farm is owned and operated by Stefan and Gail Steiner, with our three children, Meghan, Matthew and Devin. Stefan, who grew up on a dairy farm in Switzerland, moved with his family to Quebec, Canada in 1981 to continue their dairy business. Gail comes from the small town of Buckingham, Quebec and has learned to farm since 1993.

Bayview Farm is an Angus Beef Farm which is located in the western Quebec area of Lochaber (Thurso). We have been farming for more than 20 years. We started with 10 cows with which we built a herd and are still continuing to grow. We are a family operated farm, which raises cattle naturally. The calves are born and raised on the farm with grass, corn, barley and hay which we grow in our fields. The cattle never receive hormones or antibiotics, there is time to grow as nature intended. Flavor and tenderness is then further enhanced by a 21 day aging process. Quality takes time and cannot be rushed

    Saveurs des Monts

The Ferme Aux Saveurs des Monts arose from the dream and passion of the owner, Sylvain Bertrand. While armed with agrology experience and a master’s degree in agriculture management, Sylvain had no experience in chicken raising at the beginning of his adventure in 2000.

When he purchased the farm previously called Ferme GG et filles, Ginette Lafleur, the former owner, kindly accepted to help Sylvain and shared her knowledge to coach him and ensure the business’ success.  This is how the adventure began and it has not ceased to grow ever since.

Building upon an early success, the farm has been expanded many times since the purchase. Products form the Femre aux saveurs des monts are now part of the food scene of the Outaouais region: they are readily available at the farm’s Boutique, in many supermarkets, in fine grocery stores, as well as on the menu of renowned restaurants in the area.

Approximately 30 000 chickens and a herd of 2000 turkeys are raised every year with the greatest respect for the animal and its growth cycle. The quality of the product and animal welfare are the farm’s key priorities and mission.

    BlueBarn Coffee

Bluebarn Coffee Roasters is made up of a close-knit group of friends and family who came together in Wakefield, Québec to pursue a dream of making really, really good coffee. We built a barn (it’s really blue!) to house a coffee roaster and got to work.

We’ve always been obsessed with coffee, and we believe that every cup should be the best it can possibly be. This is what drives us to create roasts that we ourselves love, that bring out the nuanced flavours and aromas unique to each region, each lot, each coffee bean.

Our modus operandi is to work hard, have fun, and share our friendly vibe with the coffee-loving community. We believe in fostering strong, equitable relationships with those who work tirelessly at every stage of the farm-to-barn process in our quest for the perfect cup.

This quest starts with our commitment to uncompromising quality in the selection of exclusively specialty-grade green coffee. It then flows into the care we put into developing our roasts – a blend of artisanal ardor and shamelessly nerdy attention to detail. It continues with our dedication to providing you with an outstanding brew by partnering with professionals who share our passion for great coffee, and by giving you the proper tools to make killer coffee at home. The quest, though, it never ends.
